Some things are created because they’re supposed to become products.

She wasn’t.

She started as an idea.

A little piece of fabric. A sketch. A lot of stuffing. A sewing machine. Plenty of mistakes. Things being pulled apart and sewn back together again.

And slowly, sitting here in rural Western Australia, she became Nana.

And only 25 dolls will ever be handcrafted at this size as part of this collection.

We know technically this is a product page.

Technically, you’re purchasing a doll.

But that doesn’t quite feel like what’s happening here.

These first 25 dolls represent a little piece of the beginning of Nana’s Quest.

Nana’s Quest was created for the painters, potters, crocheters, knitters, sewists, sculptors, jewellers, woodworkers and wonderfully creative people who make things with their hands.

A place built by crafters, for crafters.

So these dolls aren’t rolling off a production line.

They’re being made here.

One at a time.

By hand.

When one leaves us, we’d rather not say she has been sold.

We like to think she’s found her caretaker.

Who Is Nana?

The original inspiration behind Nana’s Quest began very close to home.

My Nana and my husband’s Nana.

They’re part of the inspiration behind the Nana you see in our logo and the world we’ve built around her.

But Nana was never meant to belong only to us.

She’s your nana, too.

She’s the nana who taught you to knit.

The nana whose recipes you still make without needing to read them.

The nana who kept buttons in old tins and fabric that was apparently far too good to throw away.

She’s the person who taught you something with their hands.

She’s the stories we inherit.

She’s the skills that somehow travel from one generation into another.

And maybe she’s you, becoming a nana and wondering what pieces of yourself you’ll pass down.

Nana isn’t really one woman.

She’s an idea.

A reminder that creativity, knowledge, stories and craftsmanship survive because somebody takes the time to pass them on.

That’s what Nana’s Quest was built around.

And that’s what our Founder Doll represents.

Why The Apron?

There’s another little piece of Nana’s Quest stitched into what she’s wearing.

When a new vendor joins Nana’s Quest, while we still have them available, they’re welcomed with a Nana’s Quest apron handmade by my Nana and my mum.

It’s not corporate merchandise.

It’s something one maker made to welcome another.

A little way of saying:

Pull up a chair. Put your apron on. You’re one of us now.

So when we created Nana, of course she needed her own apron.

She represents the makers we’re building this place for.

The 21-Inch Founder Collection

This is the beginning.

Our first Nana’s Quest doll collection.

Only 25 Founder Dolls will ever be handcrafted at this 21-inch size as part of this collection.

Once all 25 have found their caretakers, the 21-Inch Founder Collection is complete.

That doesn’t mean Nana’s story has to end there.

As Nana’s Quest grows, there may be different dolls, different sizes, different stories and completely different collections.

But there will only ever be 25 of these.

Why $60 For A Handcrafted Doll?

This part matters to us.

Nana’s Quest exists to celebrate craftsmanship.

We would never want this collection to suggest that handmade work should be cheap.

This isn’t intended to become a large-scale doll enterprise.

The $60 doll component essentially helps us cover the cost of creating her.

This first collection is about helping Nana’s Quest keep building.

Getting our name further into the world.

Creating something physical that represents what we’re trying to protect and celebrate.

And finding 25 people who understand that something made slowly by human hands carries something a production line simply can’t reproduce.

There is no additional shipping charge at checkout.

Every Founder Doll is made and sent from rural Western Australia. At 21 inches tall and travelling safely in a substantial box, postage can cost more than we’d like.

But your postcode shouldn’t determine whether you can become part of the collection.

So we’ve capped the delivery component at $20 anywhere in Australia.

If it costs more than $20 to get Nana safely to you, Nana’s Quest pays the difference.

Made To Order

There isn’t a warehouse filled with 25 finished Nanas.

Each one begins her journey when her caretaker arrives.

Please allow approximately seven days for handcrafting before postage.

If several caretakers arrive at once, we’ll work through the collection in order and keep you updated.

You’ll know where your Nana is in her journey.

Because we think waiting for something handmade should feel a little different from watching a tracking number leave a warehouse.

Somewhere in rural Western Australia, your Nana is being made for you.
