A Quilt of Life Stories
Community Quilt Terms & Conditions
One Square. One Life. One Story.
Every contribution tells a story, and every person who participates deserves to know how their creation will be treated, protected and celebrated.
These terms explain how our worldwide community quilt will work, what we ask of contributors, and what will happen to the artwork and stories entrusted to Nana’s Quest.
Last updated: 17 October 2026
Before we begin
Creating something meaningful, together.
A Quilt of Life Stories is a community arts initiative organised by Nana’s Quest, an Australian online marketplace supporting handmade artists and makers.
The project invites contributors from around the world to create a finished quilt square representing a personal memory, experience, tradition or meaningful moment in their lives.
Each square will be accompanied by its written story, with the intention of bringing every contribution together into one collaborative artwork.
Our goals include celebrating creativity, preserving stories, building community connections and, ultimately, raising funds for charity through the completed quilt.
Current project status: Expressions of interest are open.
We are not yet accepting physical quilt squares. Final submission dates, construction instructions, contribution agreements and charitable collection arrangements are being prepared.
These published terms explain our intended arrangements and will be finalised before physical submissions open.
Quick links to the important details
01 | Who can join?
Participation is open worldwide.
A Quilt of Life Stories welcomes people from Australia and around the world, including beginners, experienced quilters, artists, families and crafting groups.
There is no participation fee, no requirement to buy anything from Nana’s Quest and no requirement to create a marketplace account.
Contributors are responsible for supplying their own materials and covering packaging and postage costs.
Contributors under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian provide the required permissions and sign their contributor documentation.
Participation is voluntary. Contributors are not employed by Nana’s Quest and are not entitled to payment for making or donating a square.
When physical submissions open, each contribution must include a completed contributor information and permission slip.
Submitting an expression of interest or subscribing to email updates does not create an obligation to make a square.
02 | Preparing your artwork
Quilt square construction requirements.
Every quilt square must be completely finished before being posted to Nana’s Quest.
Each accepted square must meet the following requirements:
Exactly 50 cm × 50 cm (500 mm × 500 mm), measured from the outermost finished edges.
A fully completed fabric design representing the contributor’s chosen story or memory.
Quilt batting or wadding suitable for textile construction.
A complete fabric backing covering the entire square.
All four edges must be securely finished. The border is included in the final 50 cm measurement.
The top, middle and backing must be securely joined together as a completed quilt sandwich.
Clean, dry, stable, free from loose sharp items and suitable for handling, storage and exhibition.
Your design belongs to you.
There is no compulsory pattern, colour scheme, artistic style or subject beyond the project’s content guidelines.
Contributors may explore patchwork, embroidery, appliqué, meaningful fabrics and other suitable textile techniques.
Materials must be safe, legal and reasonably suitable for a quilt that may be joined, folded, transported, publicly displayed and eventually auctioned.
Heavy, sharp, fragile, hazardous or unsuitable embellishments may cause a contribution to be declined.
Construction instructions may be refined before submissions open. We will confirm joining allowances, border requirements and other technical details before inviting contributors to post their finished work. Any necessary changes will be explained publicly.
03 | Keeping our quilt welcoming
Artwork and content guidelines.
The community quilt is intended to be suitable for public exhibitions, family audiences and visitors of different ages and backgrounds.
To maintain these standards, the quilt square and material intended for public display must not include:
- Sexual or sexually explicit imagery, wording or content.
- Drug-related imagery or content.
- Swearing, profanity or offensive language.
- Hateful, racist, discriminatory, threatening or abusive material.
- Graphic violence or disturbing imagery unsuitable for family exhibitions.
- Material that unlawfully infringes someone else’s copyright, privacy or other legal rights.
- Hazardous materials, exposed sharp objects or items that present an unreasonable safety risk.
Contributors may represent difficult or emotional life experiences through respectful, non-graphic imagery and language, provided their contributions comply with these requirements.
Nana’s Quest may decline a contribution that does not comply with these rules, is unsafe, or cannot reasonably be incorporated into the completed quilt.
Where practical, we will contact the contributor to discuss the issue before making a final decision.
Nana’s Quest is not obliged to alter an unsuitable design to make it compliant.
04 | The story behind the stitches
Every square must have a story.
Each contribution must include a written story explaining what the square represents.
The story may describe a memory, loved one, family tradition, important event, personal experience or any other meaningful part of the contributor’s life.
Stories may be handwritten or typed and may be as short or detailed as the contributor wishes, subject to practical presentation and preservation requirements.
Each story must accompany its square and will be kept with that contribution, with the intention of attaching it securely to the back of the quilt square.
Nana’s Quest may use an appropriate attachment or preservation method to help protect the textile and written story.
Please protect your personal information.
Because the physical story may accompany the finished quilt to exhibitions and its eventual new owner, contributors should not include private addresses, phone numbers, sensitive identifying information or confidential details in the story itself.
Contact details required for project administration will be collected separately through the contributor information slip.
Contributors should obtain appropriate permission before including private information, photographs or identifiable details relating to other people.
Providing a story for the physical quilt does not automatically grant permission for that story to be reproduced in the proposed book or individually featured in online promotions.
05 | Sending your creation
Postal submissions.
Once official submissions open, completed quilt squares and their accompanying stories must be posted to Nana’s Quest in Katanning, Western Australia.
PO Box 289
Katanning WA 6317
Australia
Contributors are responsible for the safe packaging of their contributions and all postage, customs and shipping costs applicable to their parcel.
Tracked postage is recommended wherever practical, particularly for international contributions.
International contributors must comply with Australian customs and biosecurity requirements. Materials must be clean and legally permitted to enter Australia.
Nana’s Quest cannot guarantee the arrival of parcels or prevent losses and damage occurring in transit before delivery, and is not responsible for events outside its reasonable control, subject to applicable law.
Each parcel must include the required contributor information, permissions and written story.
Submissions that arrive outside official dates or without the required documentation may not be accepted.
If a submission cannot be accepted, Nana’s Quest will make reasonable efforts to contact the contributor and discuss the available options.
Please do not post quilt squares yet. The postal address is provided for future reference. Official dates and full submission instructions will be announced on the project webpage.
06 | Physical contributions
Donation and ownership of quilt squares.
When physical submissions open, contributors will be asked to donate their completed textile squares to the collective community quilt project.
By signing the final contribution agreement and submitting an accepted square, the contributor agrees that the physical textile becomes part of the collective artwork.
The completed quilt is intended for assembly, storage, transport, public exhibition and eventual charity auction.
Once accepted into the project, donated physical squares will not ordinarily be returned to contributors.
Nana’s Quest will not use donated quilt squares as ordinary marketplace stock or resell them for its own commercial benefit.
Copyright remains with the creator.
Donation of the physical textile does not automatically transfer copyright in a contributor’s original design, artwork or written story.
Contributors retain ownership of their original intellectual property, except where they separately agree otherwise in writing.
Through the final contribution agreement, contributors will be asked to permit the necessary handling, assembly, display and documentation of their square as part of the community artwork.
Permission for separate reproduction in a book or individual promotional feature will be requested independently.
Contributors confirm that they have the rights and permissions necessary to submit their artwork and story for these purposes.
07 | Looking after your contributions
Handling, care and preservation.
Nana’s Quest will take reasonable care when receiving, recording, storing, joining and arranging transport of accepted quilt squares.
Because the project involves handmade materials and a large collaborative artwork, normal handling, joining, transportation and exhibition may cause wear or require practical construction adjustments.
Nana’s Quest cannot guarantee that every square will remain completely free from accidental damage, deterioration or changes caused by ordinary textile handling.
We will make reasonable efforts to preserve the identity and meaning of each contribution.
If significant alterations to a contributor’s original artwork become necessary, we will endeavour to contact the contributor wherever practical.
The final quilt’s size, arrangement and placement of individual contributions will be determined by the project’s practical construction requirements.
Submitting a square does not guarantee any particular location, prominence or visibility within the completed quilt.
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies rights and protections that cannot lawfully be excluded under applicable law.
08 | Sharing the artwork
Public exhibitions and displays.
Our hope is to exhibit the completed community quilt, beginning with an opportunity at Katanning Art Gallery in Western Australia.
We would also love to explore exhibitions at other galleries and suitable public venues.
No exhibition bookings, locations, dates, duration or travelling arrangements are currently guaranteed.
Accepted contributors will be asked to grant permission for their physical squares to be displayed as part of the collective artwork.
Exhibition photographs and videos may show the completed quilt, including individual squares visible within the wider artwork, subject to the permissions obtained.
Written stories attached to the quilt may be accessible to exhibition organisers, visitors and the eventual owner of the completed quilt.
Nana’s Quest cannot control every photograph taken independently by members of the public during an authorised exhibition.
We will seek separate permission before intentionally publishing an individual’s full story in a book or featuring that story separately in promotional materials.
09 | Giving back
The completed quilt and charity auction.
After the quilt’s exhibition journey, our intention is to auction the completed artwork to raise money for charity.
The quilt will be sold as one collective artwork, rather than dividing individual contributions for separate commercial sale by Nana’s Quest.
We intend to present a shortlist of five eligible charitable organisations and invite the community to vote for the charity they would most like to support.
The voting method, nominated charities and final fundraising arrangements will be published when confirmed.
Where will the money go?
Nana’s Quest will not retain the charity auction proceeds as business income.
We intend to direct the money raised to the selected charity, with any genuine third-party auction fees and final distribution arrangements disclosed before the auction takes place.
Any necessary charitable collection authority or authorised charity partnership must be established before physical donations are invited.
The auction process will be arranged in accordance with applicable laws and any requirements of the authorised charity partner.
No particular auction price, fundraising total or charitable outcome can be guaranteed.
We aim to publish a clear summary of the final auction result, relevant costs and the amount distributed to charity.
Contributors acknowledge that the physical quilt is being created with the intention of eventual charitable sale and will not ordinarily be returned once accepted into the project.
10 | Preserving our stories
The proposed book of life stories.
Nana’s Quest hopes to create a book documenting the quilt and the memories, experiences and creative work of its contributors.
The book may feature photographs of selected quilt squares, written stories and information about the project.
Publication is subject to sufficient contributor permissions, practical feasibility and the necessary financial and publishing arrangements.
Book inclusion is completely optional.
Contributors will be given the opportunity to choose whether they would like their work included in the proposed publication.
Permission to publish the agreed story and artwork under the contributor’s chosen display name.
Permission to publish the agreed material without identifying the contributor by their real name.
The contributor’s work will not be intentionally included as an individual feature in the proposed book.
Declining inclusion in the book will not prevent someone from contributing to the physical quilt.
Written, specific permission will be requested before original stories or individual artwork are reproduced in the book.
The permission agreement will describe the approved material, publication formats, attribution choices and any other relevant publishing arrangements.
Contributors retain copyright in their original stories and designs. Granting limited publication permission does not transfer ownership of their copyright to Nana’s Quest.
Contributors who consent to publication will be able to withdraw that permission before the final production deadline announced by Nana’s Quest.
Once printed or distributed, already published copies may not be capable of being recalled.
The proposed book may not proceed if suitable arrangements cannot be achieved.
11 | A book that gives back
100% of net book profits to charity.
If the book is published, Nana’s Quest intends for 100% of its net profits to be donated to charity.
Net profit means book sales revenue remaining after genuine production and selling expenses, including printing, payment processing, distribution and applicable taxes.
Nana’s Quest will not retain net book profits for its own benefit.
The charitable recipient and final fundraising arrangements will be confirmed before publication.
We intend to keep appropriate records and provide a transparent summary of sales, direct expenses and charitable distributions.
Contributors will not automatically receive royalties or payment for inclusion in the proposed book. Any separate arrangements would need to be agreed in writing before publication.
The quilt may eventually find a new home, but the stories have the potential to live on for generations.
12 | Sharing the journey
Photography, publicity and storytelling.
Nana’s Quest intends to document the project through photographs, videos, website articles, social media posts, exhibitions and potential news coverage.
The completed quilt may be photographed and promoted as a collective artwork, subject to contributor permissions and applicable law.
Contributors will be offered separate choices about whether their individual stories and artwork may be featured in Nana’s Quest promotional material.
Where an individual contributor is featured, Nana’s Quest will respect their chosen display name and the permissions provided.
We may share information about the number of participating contributors, represented countries, project milestones and general progress without disclosing private contributor details.
The permission to include a story in a proposed book is separate from any permission to feature that story in promotional content.
Nana’s Quest may benefit from brand awareness, website traffic and public relations opportunities generated by the project.
Such benefits do not change our commitment not to retain the quilt’s charitable auction proceeds or net book profits.
13 | Our community supporters
Business sponsorships and donated gifts.
Businesses, organisations and community groups may support the project by sharing information, hosting crafting sessions, volunteering, offering materials or donating gifts and vouchers for participants.
Participation as a supporter is voluntary. No financial donation is required to help promote the project.
Materials, vouchers and gifts specifically donated for contributors will be used for the benefit of project participants and will not become Nana’s Quest marketplace inventory.
Availability, eligibility and distribution arrangements for sponsored items will be announced where relevant.
Not every contributor is guaranteed to receive a sponsored gift, voucher or other benefit.
Any sponsor acknowledgement or promotional arrangement will be agreed with the relevant business or organisation.
Supporting the project does not guarantee commercial sales, publicity, awards or other specific outcomes.
Any future competitions, prize draws or promotional giveaways will require separate rules and compliance checks before they are offered.
14 | An ambitious possibility
Guinness World Records.
Nana’s Quest is investigating whether A Quilt of Life Stories could qualify for an official Guinness World Records attempt.
Any record application, eligibility criteria, measurements and evidence requirements will be subject to the official process.
We have not guaranteed that an application will be accepted, a record attempt will occur, or a record will be broken.
Contributors will not automatically receive individual Guinness World Records certificates or recognition.
Technical requirements for the quilt may need to be refined to accommodate official rules, with relevant changes announced before submissions open.
The quilt will proceed regardless of whether an official record attempt becomes possible or successful.
15 | Planning for the unexpected
Project changes, delays or cancellation.
A Quilt of Life Stories is a community initiative that depends on contributors, volunteers, suitable venues, materials, available resources and practical project arrangements.
Submission dates, construction methods, exhibitions, the proposed publication and other project milestones may change as the project develops.
Nana’s Quest will make reasonable efforts to communicate significant changes through the official project webpage and appropriate communications.
If the project cannot be completed as originally intended, we will explain the circumstances and determine an appropriate course of action consistent with contributor agreements and applicable law.
We will not redirect donated physical squares for ordinary commercial sale through the Nana’s Quest marketplace.
If a proposed material change affects the agreed purpose of a contribution or the permissions granted, we will obtain any further consent required by law or the contributor agreement.
We cannot guarantee a particular final quilt size, record result, exhibition, sale price, book publication or completion date.
Contributors participate with an understanding of these inherent uncertainties.
16 | Who we are
Nana’s Quest and the purpose of the project.
Nana’s Quest is an online marketplace supporting Australian artists and makers who sell their handcrafted creations throughout Australia.
Our marketplace fees are kept low with support from our other business, Cooper Delivered, which sells eco shampoo bars and sustainable accessories.
A Quilt of Life Stories is a separate community arts initiative organised to celebrate creative expression, personal storytelling and human connection.
Nana’s Quest’s benefit from the project is primarily brand awareness, marketing exposure and the opportunity to build relationships with craft lovers and makers.
Participation does not require any purchase, membership fee or marketplace registration.
Nana’s Quest will not retain charitable quilt auction proceeds or net profits from the proposed book as business income.
Supporting organisations may receive appropriate acknowledgement for their involvement, subject to any separately agreed arrangements.
17 | Your information
Privacy and communication preferences.
Nana’s Quest may collect names, email addresses, locations, contributor information, personal stories and permissions needed to administer the project.
Information will be used for relevant purposes including organising contributions, matching stories to squares, recording permissions, responding to enquiries and administering approved publication or exhibition activities.
Personal information will be handled in accordance with applicable privacy laws and the Nana’s Quest Privacy Policy.
We will not intentionally publish private postal addresses, personal phone numbers or unpublished contact details as part of the quilt’s promotional content.
Contributors should remember that stories physically attached to the quilt may be seen by exhibition visitors and passed to its eventual owner.
Subscribing to the Quilt of Life Stories email updates is optional and is not required for participation.
Receiving general Nana’s Quest promotional emails requires appropriate marketing consent. Project involvement does not automatically authorise unrelated marketing communications.
Where marketing emails are sent, subscribers can unsubscribe using the method provided in those communications.
Requests concerning privacy, publication permissions or corrections to personal information can be sent through Nana’s Quest’s official contact channels.
18 | Final information
Terms, applicable law and enquiries.
These terms are intended to operate in accordance with the applicable laws of Western Australia and Australia, without excluding mandatory rights that apply to international contributors.
The final participation agreement and contributor information slip will be made available before submissions open.
Where additional permissions are necessary, such as for book publication or individual promotional features, these will be requested separately.
The published participation terms may be updated to reflect confirmed practical arrangements, legal requirements, charity partnerships and project dates.
Material changes affecting contributions will be communicated as reasonably practicable.
Questions, concerns or complaints about the project can be submitted through the Nana’s Quest contact page. We will make reasonable efforts to review and respond to enquiries.
Nothing in these terms is intended to exclude or reduce legal responsibilities that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Made by many. Remembered together.
Thank you for helping us create something extraordinary.
Every square represents someone’s time, creativity and personal story. We want to honour that trust by being clear about our intentions and respectful of every contribution.
We hope this quilt will bring people together, preserve meaningful memories and eventually help a charity chosen by the community.
Thank you for considering being part of it.
Come in, love. There’s always room for another story.
