What You’ll Need

• ✔ Medium-weight fabric (cotton or canvas)
• ✔ Thread

How to Make a DIY Fabric Tote Bag

Step 1: Cut Your Fabric

Cut two equal rectangles for the body of the bag.

Then cut two long strips for the handles.

Step 2: Sew the Body

Place your fabric pieces together (right sides facing).

Sew along the sides and bottom, leaving the top open.

Step 3: Create the Handles

Fold each strip lengthwise, sew along the edge, then turn inside out.

Press flat if needed.

Step 4: Attach the Handles

Pin the handles to the inside top edge of the bag.

Make sure they’re even on both sides.

Step 5: Finish the Top

Fold the top edge down and sew across, securing the handles in place.

And just like that… you’ve made something real.
